Our History
In November 2006 following a church meeting, Bridgeman Baptist
Community Church agreed to set apart Martin Luke, an associate
pastor of Bridgeman, and his wife Leanne to commence a new
congregation in the areas of Ferny Grove and Upper Kedron called
The Grove Community Church.
Following a number of preliminary meetings, around 80 adults and
children from Bridgeman indicated their intention to form the core
of the new work. The church officially commenced meeting on
February 4, 2007 in the Ferny Grove High School Auditorium.
At the time of commencement, there were no churches in the
rapidly growing suburbs of Ferny Grove and Upper Kedron. The
biggest features of the suburbs are the large local schools which
represent the many children, teenagers and families that call Ferny
Grove and Upper Kedron home.
Four years on The Grove are thankful for the opportunties for
growth and development in their ministries and relationship with
the local community. The strong culutre of love and acceptance is a
deep value for bringing encouragment to people of all ages. It has
also been a great joy to see many new individuals and families come
to the regular Sunday services.
Our Dream
We have a vision to one day build a permanent church in the
local community that can be a Centre for many different activities
that serve the people of Ferny Grove and Upper Kedron. We would
love to run regular kids clubs, have a place for teenagers to
hangout, to host youth events, a playtime for younger children and
where parents can build friendships and support. Generally we pray
that as part of the future of the suburbs, that The Grove could be
a positive and permanent Christian influence and provide a place
where people are welcome to come and be blessed, encouraged and
experience the nearness of God's loving presence in their
lives.
