<p>Guest speaker Todd Langford from <a
href="http://bridgeman.org.au/home.aspx">Bridgeman Baptist
Community Church</a> joins us with a challenge to grow into who we
are in God. In this sermon, Todd explains who the Bible says we are
when we accept Jesus (sons and daughters of God), and challenges us
to grow up into that reality.</p>

<p><span>How do we live in a way that's irresistible to God in
terms of his blessing? In his famous sermon on the mount, Jesus
teaches us the upside down values of the Kingdom; values that when
lived out suddenly turn everything the right way up. The second
four beatitudes are all about our attitude to others - these
attitudes are the true expression of a person that's discovered the
posture of real blessing.</span></p>

<p><span>We live in one of the first eras of history where happy
endings are the mark of inferior art. Therefore happy endings are
thought to be unrealistic and better left for children's stories.
But happy endings are what we all desire in stories, especially our
own.</span></p>

<p><span></span></p>

<p><span>The resurrection of Jesus is a happy ending. While Jesus
told the disciples that after 3 days he would rise, they didn't
expect it to really happen. But the fact is the movement of
Christianity exploded after many witnessed Jesus really was
alive.</span></p>

<p><span></span></p>

<p><span>The resurrection of Jesus offers hope for everyone who
believes in him, to know that a happy ending is not just a feel
good story but a guarantee.</span></p>

and a comment from Joni Earickson as quoted in Tim Keller's book,
'Kings Cross'.</span></p>

<p><span>When Jesus said on the cross "it is finished", he was
saying that by dying he had done everything required for us to have
a relationship with God.</span></p>

<p><span></span></p>

<p><span>Religion is about everything we have to do to find
acceptance with God</span></p>

<p><span>Grace is about everything God has done so that we can be
accepted</span></p>

<p><span></span></p>

<p><span>The thief on the cross couldn't do anything to make up for
what he had done, but his simple trust in Jesus was enough for him
to be accepted into the eternal Kingdom of God</span></p>

<p><span></span></p>

<p><span>The cross is enough for everyone</span></p>

<p><span>The service concluded with the song 'When I
survey'</span></p>

<p><span>Death is something we prefer to not think about. However,
it is a real part of life. Jesus tells his disciples to not be
troubled but to trust in him. There is plenty of room in heaven,
and he has made a way to heaven for everyone who trusts in him.
Facing death actually brings the power of the gospel into sharp
focus.</span></p>

<p>In this message we evaluate the differences between good
"advice" and a "command". As we continue to investigate the Gospel
in this series we turn to Jesus' command to be witnesses in our
world.</p>
